Tempus, It's the Right Time
Welcome to the Tempus Website! Thank you for checking us out. We are a newly established ministry at Midwest Bible Church that is focused on the young adults of the Chicagoland area. We love this generation! A generation, as someone so eloquently wrote, that is known by love, live by faith, and bring hope into a broken and hurting world.
Tempus was established to to care for this generation and fuel the fire of their passion for others and God. It is our goal at Tempus to create opportunities for serving, worshipping, interacting and growing in community.
The name Tempus means "right time" in Latin. In Romans 13:11-14 it says "11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts."
The Apostle Paul gives the reader four imperatives: Watch, War, Walk and Wait. Watch for the return of Jesus and live accordingly. War against the enemy the devil. Fight the good fight. Walk through life in such a way that our lives bring honor to God. And, finally, Wait victoriously. As we wait for the Lord's return, live for God not the world. Interestingly, Paul begins this portion of his letter by exhorting the Roman people to awake out of sleep. He said "knowing the time, that it is high time" to wake up and watch, war, walk and wait. In other words, Paul is saying "It's the right time" to live our lives for eternal purposes. This is why we chose the name Tempus. It describes our goal in life, our battle cry if you will.
